Priority Axis 3

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TOWNS AND RURAL AREAS

The main objective of priority axis 3 is the systematic enhancement of the region's competitiveness through the reinforcement of development potential in towns and the stabilisation of population in rural areas.

Specific objectives include revitalising inadequately used or underdeveloped urban areas and maintaining public spaces; regenerating historical centres and urban conservation areas and using building stock; regenerating and revitalizing neglected sites (brownfields etc.); solving inadequate quality and capacity of transport infrastructure as a result of the increasing number of automobiles; building and improving civic amenities, i.e. schools, educational institutions, sports facilities, leisure time facilities for children and youth, projects focused on ethnic minorities and groups endangered by social marginalisation; and innovating pilot projects. Projects leading to the fulfilment of integrated urban development plans (IUDP) will be supported. Emphasis will be put on innovative and barrier-free solutions.

Specifically, areas of assistance aim at the enhancement of socio-economic functions of urbanisation centres as facilitators of regional growth and development, enhancement of the role of regional centres as other important focal points of the development of the South-East region, sustainable development and stabilisation of settlements in rural areas and an increase in their attractiveness for life and the enhancement of the standard of living for the inhabitants of the region.

For these purposes, a total of EUR 201 million is earmarked from EU funds, which amounts to roughly CZK 5 699 billion, i.e. 28.6% of the ROP SE.
